Ocean Wise
Ocean Wise is a program that tracks the sources of, and methods for fishing, sustainable seafood. This site targets the general public, enabling them to research their seafood and eat more sustainably sourced seafood, and also provides a certification and promotional system for restaurants that serve sustainable seafood.
Because the goal of the Ocean Wise program focuses on education around sustainable seafood and overfishing, the features cater to both the general public, and their participating members (made up of over 500 restaurants, markets, and food-service outlet companies with over 3100 locations).
The site build included:
Multiple ways to search and browse
Map search/browse
The map allows users to browse all of the Partners listed in Canada, and filter for the type of establishment, as well as do a keyword search that filters the map results.
Once a user clicks through to an individual Partner profile, it provides information like the location (including a map), contact info, and link to the business' website.
Info search/browse
The "Find Seafood Info" search allows users to search by keyword or browse through the various types of seafood that are listed in the directory.
The results show more detailed information about the specific types of a given seafood, the fishing methods, etc. to help businesses and consumers learn which are sustainable and which should not be consumed.

Custom design and theme
We worked with one of our design partners, Talia Cohen, to create an eye catching design that helped highlight the various ways to find information on the Ocean Wise site, as well as incoporate their branding. The end result, which we translated into a custom Drupal theme, allows users to easily find information while remaining consistent with the instantly recognizable Ocean Wise branding and imagery.
