UBC Amazing Race Vancouver

We built a contest framework to support a social experiment on the topic of procrastination. Users were segmented into 4 separate roles, and each role was given different instructions on how to proceed with the contest. At a technical level, the contest platform enforces rules for a scavenger hunt, each contestant can only see the current clue they are working on, and once they complete the current clue, the next clue is revealed to them.

Contestants were asked to upload photos proving they had been to a certain location. The control over the users current step was enforced by moving them from one role to another. We created a custom module to limit the times that certain roles were allowed to start the contest.

The site has been used in 2 separate runs of the same experiment.
